Transforming Rural Agriculture in Borgu: Empowering Farmers Through Innovation, Tradition & Opportunity

At ChatMyCause (CMC), our mission is to create lasting impact through agriculture and community development—and nowhere is this more evident than in Borgu, Niger State. In this agriculturally rich region, we are working hand-in-hand with local farmers and traditional leaders to scale up the production of shea butter and organic groundnut oil, two valuable natural resources with immense local and international demand.

For years, these farmers have relied on manual tools like wooden mortars to process their goods—a method that, while traditional, is physically demanding and time-consuming. Despite their dedication and the high quality of their products, the lack of modern equipment has limited their ability to meet growing demand and access global markets.

Thanks to the visionary leadership and support of the Emir of Borgu, our efforts have gained widespread community acceptance. The Emir has played a crucial role in championing this cause, rallying support from stakeholders and helping create an enabling environment for agricultural development.

However, to truly unlock the potential of these rural producers, there is a critical need for tractors, processing machines, and a local manufacturing facility. These resources will not only increase efficiency and output but also reduce post-harvest losses, improve the quality of finished products, and enable the community to transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture.

In collaboration with the Borgu Grassroots Organization (BGO), we are planning a series of workshops and training sessions focused on sustainable farming practices, modern processing techniques, and international quality standards. These initiatives aim to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to compete in global markets while preserving the integrity of their traditional methods.

To support this transition, ChatMyCause is also leading efforts in branding, packaging, and market positioning—ensuring these local products not only meet global expectations but also stand out in competitive marketplaces. From designing professional product labels to developing storytelling-driven brand identities, we’re helping farmers present their shea butter and groundnut oil in ways that attract international investors and buyers.

Our work in Borgu is more than just agricultural support—it’s about dignity, empowerment, and sustainable growth. At CMC, we believe that by investing in rural communities, modernizing local industries, and preserving traditional practices, we can build a future where Nigerian farmers are not only surviving—but thriving.
